Today I worked at the call centre.........

I started to do one drawing and then another. 

I feel bored of doing pictures straight from my imagination.

Recently I have done several commissions and specific projects which have needed to be designed with a focus in mind to a brief and I realise that i am actually enjoying the process of setting out to draw something specific more than just drawing randomly as has been the focus over the last two years. 

Tonight i did some nice drawings of houses morphing into each other, some at isometric angles, some at oblique, others at other random angles but they curve around nicely with the trees popped in here and there. For some reason it makes me want to do a whole bunch of them joining up in a circle like a wreath. 

Introduction to the art of RJRAE.

This blog aims to track my ideas to date and see if i can decipher the threads of continuity that have developed over time...... hopefully providing some foundation for the next body of work in my practice. 

I aim to retrace my steps back to the year 2000 or so and look at the major themes in my work to date........

2004 Exhibit in first FLUOROESE show at Area Contemporary Art Space, Melbourne

Install a sticker artwork made entirely of labeling stickers.

2005 Technostalgia v.2 - an evolution of the series shown at Wren Gallery, Sydney

Start painting with glitter glue and fabric paint in small tubes  as a response to working in an art and craft store. The works focus on materiality. 

Enter one of the glitter paintings into the Phoenix Prize for Spiritual Art and it gets hung.... have a show at CCAS Manuka two months later and it is a huge success.....

glitter seems to be in. 

2006 Go to India and Thailand.

Collaborate on the GAG and Frog Sticker Show, Matoom Art Space, Chaing Mai. 

Glitter Glue works go to New Zealand as part of a group show.

DINO DRAW 

Large scale drawing project with 638 primary school children. 

Receive a Melbourne City Council Grant to create this project and Art Spectum sponsors the materials. Charcoal and paper, facilitated by ARTPLAY, Melbourne. 

Motivation: Want to see a huge drawing. Happened to have just drawn a nice dinosaur picture, used that as the start point.

2007 Artwranglers is set up in Canberra and I am invited to show new glitter glue paintings. My first Artwranglers show:  Glittereyes. 

Glitter and fabric paint on canvas. 

The works have moved away from total materiality and now look at landscapes and surreal almost cosmic forms. 

Coinciding with Wranglers show, Peter Fay curates two of my graphic glitter works into The Ergas Collection.

Photocopy Nights, TCB Gallery, Melbourne.

Start working night shifts at Fedex Kinko's in the high volume area,  start collecting the left over hole punch refuse confetti stuff. Before i know it i have over 20 bags of the stuff. Form an idea to make a work in response to working in such a crazy boring job. Night shift finally gets to me and I need osteopathic treatment from doing repetitive tasks... nearly have a breakdown! Opening night coincides with the last night i work there! 

Start working in telemarketting...... draw a comic picture in black artline 210 texta and get hooked on the black ink, white paper contrast burning images into my retina under the fluoro lights of the call center.  Work 5 shifts a week drawing the whole time and start going through a box of 12 textas a fortnight. 

The works are graphic, pop, street, tattoo, tribal, comic stylings.

Expand on my label sticker art and go BIG for the first time with this idea. Scaling up the circles to new effect. 

2008 ARTPLAY get me to do a project similar to DINO DRAW in regional and rural Victoria via the Regional Arts Victoria Art-2-Go tour. 

Go to Mexico. 

2009 Complete the Graduate Certificate of Public Art at RMIT

Decide doing the course would be a good way of re-assessing my practice.

Am feeling burnt out from doing so many art projects and want focus. 

Previous projects with Art Play have lead me to work somewhat in the public field so i feel it may be relevant.

My last glitter glue show at wranglers as they decide to close. 

Glitter paintings now have no globs of fabric paint and include traditional landscapes in glitter.  

Co-curate for the first time..... The Felt Tip Pen Show, Rear View Gallery, Melbourne.

Show some of my tele marketing series for the first time.  One viewer of the show is so into the designs she commissions me to do a large piece to be tattooed onto the whole length of her back. 

Show in Fluroese 4 at Area Contemporary Art Space. 

Work merges collage and my drawing styls to create a site specific art work.
